Care of Common Childhood Illnesses

Children commonly experience coughs, colds, fevers and infections as they grow.

Our paediatricians assess common childhood illnesses, guide parents on symptoms to watch for, and advise when treatment or further review may be needed.

When Should You See a Doctor?

Many childhood illnesses improve within a few days. However, some symptoms may require medical assessment, especially in younger children and infants.

You may wish to seek medical advice if your child has:

  • Persistent or high fever
  • Difficulty breathing or wheezing
  • Signs of dehydration, including reduced urine output
  • Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea
  • Extreme sleepiness or unusual lethargy
  • Refusal to eat or drink
  • A rash that spreads rapidly or is accompanied by fever
  • Symptoms that are worsening instead of improving

If you are concerned about your child's symptoms, it is always advisable to seek medical advice.
