What Is the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule?

The National Childhood Immunisation Schedule (NCIS) provides recommendations on when children should receive routine vaccinations in Singapore.

These vaccinations are scheduled to provide protection during infancy, childhood and adolescence, when children may be more vulnerable to certain infectious diseases.

While NCIS forms the foundation of childhood vaccination in Singapore, some children may benefit from additional vaccines depending on their health needs, lifestyle, travel plans or individual circumstances.

Can Baby Bonus Be Used for Childhood Immunisation?

As SBCC Baby & Child clinics are Baby Bonus approved, eligible childhood vaccinations may be paid for using your child's Baby Bonus funds.

Selected vaccinations may also be claimable through Medisave, subject to prevailing regulations and eligibility criteria.

Why are childhood vaccinations important?

Vaccinations help protect children against potentially serious infectious diseases and reduce the spread of infections within the community.

Can my child's vaccination be delayed?

In some situations, vaccination schedules may need to be adjusted. This may depend on factors such as your child's health, medical conditions, or previous reactions to vaccines.

Some of the possible conditions include:

  • If your baby is born prematurely
  • If your baby weighs less than 2 kg
  • If your child has a high fever or is unwell
  • If your child is being treated for cancer (especially for live vaccines)
  • If your child has any disease that weakens the immune system
  • If your child is being assessed for a neurological problem
  • If your child has had a serious reaction to any previous injection
  • If your child has an allergy to eggs (but is no longer a contradiction to giving MMR and Influenza vaccines)

* Do note that the above conditions are not absolute contraindications. Your paediatrician can advise on the most appropriate timing for vaccination.

What side effects can occur after vaccination?

Most children experience only mild side effects such as soreness at the injection site, a low-grade fever, fussiness, or reduced appetite. These symptoms usually improve within a few days.

What if my child has missed a vaccine or received some vaccines elsewhere?

Your paediatrician can review your child’s vaccination records, check what has already been given, and advise on the next suitable vaccines or catch-up schedule where needed.

What should I bring for my child’s vaccination appointment?

Bring your child’s health booklet or vaccination records so your paediatrician can review previous vaccinations and advise on the next suitable vaccines.
